Risk Disclosure
2026-08-21
Digital assets involve substantial risk. Read this carefully before using Melmex. Only ever use amounts whose total loss you can afford.
1. Irreversibility
Blockchain transactions are final. A transfer to a wrong or hostile address, on a wrong network, or of a wrong amount cannot be undone by Melmex, by the network, or by anyone else. Address-verification aids in Melmex reduce, but cannot eliminate, this risk.
2. Key loss is asset loss
Melmex is self-custodial: your keys, secured through your login and recovery methods, are the only way to control your assets. If your login methods and recovery details are lost, your assets are permanently unrecoverable. If another person gains control of them, that person controls your assets.
3. Volatility
Digital-asset prices can move violently, gap without warning, and go to zero. Stablecoins can lose their peg. Prices shown in Melmex are estimates from third-party sources and can be delayed or wrong; the value realised in any transaction can differ materially from the value displayed.
4. Network and fee risk
Networks can be congested, halted, forked, or reorganised. Fees fluctuate and are consumed even when a transaction fails. A transaction can remain pending for a long time or fail after fees are spent.
5. Smart-contract and protocol risk
Swaps and token contracts are third-party smart contracts. They can contain defects, be exploited, be upgraded adversely, or behave differently from expectation. Granting a token allowance authorises a contract to move that token up to the approved amount; unlimited allowances carry correspondingly unlimited exposure. Slippage between quote and execution can reduce what you receive; extreme market moves can exceed configured limits.
6. Third-party dependence
Melmex depends on external providers for sign-in and wallet infrastructure, blockchain data, prices, and routing. Their outage, compromise, or withdrawal can make the interface partly or wholly unusable — your assets remain yours on-chain, but acting on them may require other tools.
7. Fraud
The digital-asset ecosystem attracts sophisticated fraud: lookalike addresses planted in your history, counterfeit tokens using well-known names, fake support staff, and phishing sites imitating real applications. Melmex will never ask for your recovery details. Treat every unexpected token, link, and message as hostile until verified.
8. Legal, tax and regulatory risk
The regulatory treatment of digital assets — including under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) — continues to evolve and varies by jurisdiction. Rules applying to you, to Melmex, or to the assets you hold can change, with consequences including restrictions on use. You are responsible for your own tax reporting and legal compliance.
